The Adafruit STEMMA Reflective Photo Interrupt Sensor - TCRT1000 is a highly advanced electronic component that utilizes two elements: an IR LED and an IR photo-transistor. The IR LED emits light, and the photo-transistor detects when the light is reflected back. This results in an increase in current flow, making the sensor incredibly effective at detecting objects in its field of view. Thanks to this technology, the sensor can accurately determine the absence and presence of objects without error.
The Adafruit STEMMA Reflective Photo Interrupt Sensor is available for a quick and easy setup, eliminating the need for soldering or breadboarding. Unlike its counterparts, the ITR20001 and Infrared Reflective Sensor, this sensor is ready to use out of the box without the need for additional mounting or wiring with resistors.
Operate the sensor with a 3 to 5V DC power supply and read the output signal for efficient detection of reflective surfaces. An illuminated green LED indicates power to the board, while a red LED signals activation of the phototransistor. Both LEDs can be disabled at your preference.
This sensor module features a TCRT1000 right-angle design. A potentiometer enables users to adjust the brightness of the IR emitter, with the lowest setting drawing approximately 1mA and the highest setting requiring 100mA. The receiving phototransistor is biased with a 10K pullup, resulting in a high output signal when no IR light is present. However, when IR light is reflected back, the voltage decreases towards 0V.
This board has a simple plug-and-play JST PH (2mm pitch) input connector for solderless use. For use with a CircuitPlayground or micro:bit, this JST to alligator-clip cable works best. Red is power, ground is black and signal is white. For use with a breadboard, try this JST to male/plug-header. (We also have a socket-header cable if you want)

Receipt of deliveries
Deliveries to post office boxes are not permitted where delivery is by courier. If delivery is by courier and nobody is available at the delivery address to accept delivery when delivery is attempted then the courier may either:
- leave the relevant parcel at the unattended address (the courier will do so if specified in your delivery requirements); or
- re-attempt delivery at a later time or date, in which case we may charge you an additional re-delivery fee.
Note that if a delivery is left unattended at the shipping address and is subsequently stolen then the theft is your responsibility, not ours.
